The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) welcomed the newest class of physical therapy (PT) students in mid-August, immersing them in orientation before the first day of classes. The 46 budding PTs, whose first days on campus can be viewed here, will receive their white coats, a symbol of their entry into the profession, in October, before delving back into the studies and community service that mark the prestigious program.
Earlier this summer, the SMHS PT program received a 10-year reaccreditation from the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education. Program graduates, for the seventh consecutive year, also achieved a 100 percent first-time pass rate on the rigorous National Physical Therapy Examination.
"This level of success is exemplary and a testimony to our strong graduates, excellent faculty, and a curriculum reflective of contemporary practice standards,” said Joyce Maring, DPT, EdD, program director for the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program and chair of the Department of Physical Therapy and Health Care Sciences at SMHS, at the time. “I am very proud of our graduates and grateful to be working with such an excellent team of faculty and staff."
